The Story - Dewa Kompiang Kandel Roeka was part of the Pre-war Balinese Modernist Movement taking place from (1928-1942).  The movement was born from the arrival of Western Artists like Walter Spies (German) and Rudolf Bonnet (Dutch) turning the Bali into an Artist's enclave similar to Tahiti for Paul Gaugin. The movement was divided by Village; The Batuan Village was known for it's paintings.
